KATO Yota
Composer, Arranger and Piano accompanist.
Born in Tokyo in 1989.
Dropped out of the Department of Composition, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts.
Studied piano since age 9 and composition since age 15. After graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan Shinjuku High School, he enrolled in the Department of Composition, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. A chamber music piece he created while attending school was selected as one of the best works of the school year. After dropping out of school, he participated in a choir in Tokyo and was active in composing and arranging works for voice, chorus, and keyboard instruments, as well as providing piano accompaniment. In addition, he mainly engages in activities such as sheet music engraving, sound source production, and score production that utilize his knowledge of classical music and composition. Composers who have influenced him include Ravel, Masashi Hamauzu, Yuji Nomi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
In 2023, commissioned by the mixed choir Voce Ars and Chor-Amafok, "Ashita (Tomorrow)" (a piece for a cappella mixed chorus based on a poem by Nankichi Niimi) and Suite for mixed chorus and piano "Three Poems of Nankichi Niimi" produced respectively. The premiere is scheduled for April and November 2024. The music sheet and sound source of the work will also be stored at the Niimi Nankichi Memorial Museum in Handa City, Aichi Prefecture in Japan.
